Oversize & permits
What makes a load “oversize” or “overweight”?
In most states a load needs a permit when it’s wider than 8 ft 6 in, taller than the state’s legal height (commonly 13 ft 6 in to 14 ft 6 in overall), longer than standard trailer limits, or when gross vehicle weight exceeds 80,000 lbs. Try our oversize checker for a quick read.
Who gets the permits?
We do. We file every state permit on your route and make sure the permitted route matches the route the truck will drive. There’s nothing for you to file.
What is a superload?
A load so large or heavy that it goes beyond a state’s standard permit limits. Superloads often need engineering review, bridge analysis, route surveys and sometimes police escorts — plan for weeks of lead time instead of days.
Can oversize loads travel at night or on weekends?
Usually not. Most states restrict oversize loads to daylight hours and limit weekend and holiday travel, and many cities have rush-hour curfews. We build these into your schedule.
Escorts & routing
When do I need pilot cars or escorts?
Escort requirements often start around 12 ft wide, with a second escort commonly required past 14–16 ft, and height poles for tall loads. Each state sets its own thresholds — we schedule the correct number for every leg.
Why doesn’t my load take the shortest route?
Low overpasses, weight-restricted bridges, tight turns and construction zones often rule out the shortest route. Permits specify an approved route, and we plan the one that is legal and safe for your load.
Do you do route surveys?
Yes. For tall, wide or very heavy loads we review clearances and restrictions in advance and can arrange a physical survey of critical sections.
Quotes, timing & payment
What info do you need for a quote?
Length, width, height and weight; the make and model if it’s equipment; pickup and delivery locations; how it loads; and your ready date. Photos help. Our quote form walks you through it.
How fast will I get a quote?
Most quotes go out within one business day. Superloads and complex projects may take longer because of route and engineering review.
How much notice do you need?
Legal-size loads can often move within a day or two. Standard permitted loads typically need a few business days for permits. Superloads can take several weeks. The earlier you reach out, the more options you have.
What affects the price?
Distance, dimensions, weight, trailer type, the number of states and permits, escort requirements, route surveys, and any special handling. Our quotes list these up front so there are no surprises.
How do I pay?
Payment terms are confirmed on your quote. Email us if you need to set up an account or have specific billing requirements.
Insurance & safety
Is my freight insured?
Yes. Every load is covered by $1,000,000 in cargo insurance, and we can provide a certificate of insurance before pickup. Additional coverage can be added for high-value freight — just ask when you request your quote.
How can I verify your company?
Look us up on the FMCSA SAFER system using USDOT 5582543. You’ll see our operating authority and safety information. Open SAFER ↗
How do you secure loads?
To FMCSA cargo securement standards — rated chains and binders at proper tie-down points, edge protection where needed, and re-checks within the first 50 miles and at stops.
Loading & delivery
Do you handle loading and unloading?
Drivable equipment is loaded by our drivers. For non-drivable freight we coordinate with your crane, rigging or forklift crew, or can help arrange one.
What should I do to prepare my equipment?
Remove or secure attachments, crate loose parts, note any fluid or battery requirements from the manufacturer, and make sure the site is accessible for a long, low trailer. See our pre-shipment checklist.
Will I get updates while my load is moving?
Yes — you’ll hear from us at pickup, in transit and at delivery, plus right away if anything changes.
